Physically Fit

Pilates classes and video membership

We flexed our creative muscles to relaunch a fitness brand with a new website and look so that pregnant and postnatal mums can join Angela Jameson and stay Physically Fit.

The opportunity

We work in a shared office space and sometimes partner with Cairn Agency to support their clients. One of these clients was Angela Jameson at Physically Fit. Angela's business offers pilates lessons and fitness, advice and recovery tuition for women in Oxford. We talked with Angela at a critical time - her face-to-face classed had stopped due to lock-down and her family situation meant that she would soon have more time for growing the business. Having a vibrant, contemporary website to sell her services online was essential but her website had reached end of life - outdated code, a bland design and information difficult to access. We presented a proposal document outlining the task, our solution, costs and time-scales. We are grateful to Phil at Cairn Agency for allowing us list this project under our work.

Design process

We had regular screenshare calls to look at inspirational websites, competitors and design mockups to help write a list to guide the new design:
It should be easy to use, clear to understand and have a light, fresh design
A new logo, colour pallet and new studio photography and stock images
Consistent typography and heading sizes
Adaptive navigation and content depending on whether a customer is logged in
Content to change to fit different screen sizes including mobile
Copy focusing on Angela as the founder, providing expert Pilates for Mums

Building the website

For a monthly fee, her clients can access a library of exercise videos. We helped categorise the videos by type, method, props required and duration to allow people to easily filter by their interest. Videos can be chained together to allow them to be in a series. When viewing videos, customers can add comments.

The website included the ability to purchase classes for in person or by Zoom. We used an open source e-commerce solution and the Stripe payment gateway.  A blog allows Angela to provide free fitness advice and to influence the Google listing over time. An email newsletter sign-up form with appealing proposition to allow Angela to email fitness tips people directly. Finally the site includes the ubiquitous contact form so that people can easily ask questions.

The key technologies we used to build this site were WordPress CMS, WP Engine for hosting, WooCommerce for the online shop, Restrict Content Pro and Vimeo for the video membership.

Angela was delighted with her new website and customers are too - there is a growing base of subscribers paying a monthly fee to access the videos.

"Paul helped to create a brand new website for me with an online video membership and payment system. He is done such a great job, he is punctual, professional and has over delivered in his work. I would highly recommend him. Thanks Paul"
